What we do

About Us

We are Parent Action. We are parents working together to build communities, provide practical and emotional support, and take action on the things that matter.

We want parents to have a place where they belong. From wanting support with your mental health, to making new friends, to taking action on poor housing, we’re here to help you thrive as a parent and as a person.

What We Do

We run a weekly calendar of activities, hosted by our Parent Action staff team, where families can spend time together in a safe environment. We also offer practical support and activities for families. Whether it’s planting fruit and veg with your children in our allotment, taking a parenting course for new or expecting parents, or getting peer support for your mental health, we’re here to put parents first.

Parents are at the heart of everything we do. We listen and value the perspective of parents while also making space for children and families to play, have fun, and meet friends old and new.

"Together, we created a sisterhood." Find out more about Saran, a community leader who has been involved with Parent Action for four years, leading mental health peer support groups by facilitating workshops and encouraging mothers to practise journaling.

Our Impact

As well as believing in the power of parents, we believe in taking action. We listen to what matters to you, and support you to work with others to make positive change for your family and community. As a part of Citizens UK, we work with schools, universities, faith groups, charities and others in the community to bring about social change that benefits the wider communities we work in.

Parent Action is a space for people to connect, develop and grow. We want to help families build the confidence and abilities to create change in their lives and in their communities.

An evaluation of our work by the Institute of Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience at King's College London found that 40% of the mothers who came to our Mumspace group were at the threshold of getting some form of mental health intervention, but after six months, 68% had fully recovered. The project started in Southwark but has since expanded to Leeds, North Tyneside and Lewisham.

Inclusion Statement

We are an equal opportunities organisation. No volunteer, staff member or member of the community should receive less favourable treatment on the grounds of race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, gender, marital status or caring responsibility, sexual orientation, age, physical, sensory or learning disability, mental health, political or religious beliefs, class, HIV status, or employment status.

If you witness any behaviours where you feel someone is being treated less favourably or excluded, then please inform our staff so that we can take appropriate action.
